COM 597: Digital Strategy for Business: From Marketing to Metrics

Course Description:

Spinning plates. When you’re in charge of running a business, it can feel like you’re a one-person circus act charged with keeping a set of unwieldy, mismatched, and sometimes chipped plates spinning in unison while dancing a jig with a grizzly bear. Sound familiar? This course will teach you how to do it with the grace, skill, and confidence that comes from developing and executing a sound digital strategy that combines web, social, video, and business fundamentals to ensure you’re maximizing your ROI, hitting your KPIs, and getting your LOLZ. With a focus on understanding and developing the practical components of a robust digital strategy for a startup, nonprofit, or indie content project (film, album, or e-book), we’ll analyze real-world case studies, undertake in-class practical exercises, and work in teams to craft executable digital strategies for local clients across a spectrum of interest areas. We’ll also explore our “always on” second screen environment, and what it means for modern business, through a series of TED-style micro-talks highlighting emerging trends and technologies.
