Interrupting Overconsumption

Are your shopping decisions driven by need or emotion?

When Comm Lead student Vivian Reed moved from the Bay Area to Seattle to join our program, she found herself asking this question, as the process of setting up a new home drove her to make a lot of purchases from online retailers.

So in our first core class, she decided to tackle the problem of over-consumption, and came up with a prototype for a web browser extension that interrupts the shopping process and helps users avoid unneeded purchases.
